Dallas ascended to the NFC East's top-dog status and recaptured its glory years in the early part of the decade. The Cowboys and 49ers were the class of the league for much of the period, while Buffalo was the best team in the AFC for the early part of the decade, becoming the first team to reach four consecutive Super Bowls.
