We invented the hamburger! In 1885 at the Erie County Fair in Hamburg NY concessionaires Frank & Charles Menches ran out of pork for the their famous sausage sandwich. They switched to chopped beef and spiced it with brown sugar, coffee, and a few other still-secret ingredients, creating the beloved hamburger. The same brothers at the World's Fair created the ice cream cone in 1904. Now you can taste both original recipes only at Menches Brothers Restaurant, still family owned and operated at Canal Park in Akron. Menches Brothers Canal Park offers panoramic views of the Akron Aero's baseball park.
