Vince Lombardi Trophy on its way to North Texas

1/14/2011

A few lucky fans touring the Hall of Fame happen to wander through the Lamar Hunt Super Bowl Gallery just as our curator and other staff members were removing the Vince Lombardi Trophy from its exhibit case.

Thanks to the National Football League, these fans were looking at the actual trophy that will be awarded at Super Bowl XLV in North Texas in less than a month. Starting last season, the NFL now produces each season’s Vince Lombardi Trophy a bit earlier so it can be shipped to the Hall of Fame in Canton where it stays on exhibit throughout the NFL’s regular season.

So today, the Brinks truck pulled up to 2121 George Halas Drive to take the trophy that in a few weeks will permanently belong to either the Atlanta Falcons, Baltimore Ravens, Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers, New England Patriots, New York Jets, Pittsburgh Steelers or Seattle Seahawks.

For those planning on visiting us soon, there’s no need to worry. We possess a “permanent” Vince Lombardi Trophy that will “fill in” until the Super Bowl XLVI version shows up next September.
