Emmitt Smith Record Game Artifacts Arrive in Canton

The Pro Football Hall of Fame announced today that it has received from Dallas Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith, one of the four helmets and jerseys he wore during the October 27, 2002 game against the Seattle Seahawks, when he set a new all-time career rushing record.

The items, along with other artifacts received earlier from the Cowboys are now on public display in the museum's Pro Football Today exhibition area. "We are pleased that Emmitt decided to provide the Pro Football Hall of Fame with these historically significant artifacts from his career milestone game," stated Hall of Fame Executive Director John Bankert. "The Hall of Fame is proud to be able to serve as a showcase that will forever link Emmitt with the great players and moments of pro football's past."

Smith, who rushed for 109 yards in the Week 8 game against the Seahawks, surpassed Hall of Fame running back Walter Payton's career mark of 16,726 yards. Smith's career-rushing total now stands at 17,162 yards.

Other items donated to the Hall of Fame from the Cowboys include the coach's offensive game plan sheet, a goal line pylon (Smith also scored his 150th career rushing touchdown), the play-by-play sheets, and an autographed game program.
