Green Bay Packers

Bart
Starr
Under
the guidance of the legendary Vince Lombardi, the Packers led the NFL
West with a 12-2 regular season record. Division rivals Minnesota and
San Francisco were the only two teams able to blemish the remarkable
season. Green Bay downed Dallas, 34-27, in the League Championship
game and routed Kansas City, 35-10, in Super Bowl I. Bart Starr, Jim
Taylor, Carroll Dale and Elijah Pitts led an offense that outscored
its opponents, 339-159. Prototype middle linebacker Ray Nitschke led
the defensive side of this lopsided equation.

Fran
Tarkenton
A
"Purple People Eaters" defense and an exciting and
elusive quarterback defined the 1976 Minnesota squad. The team
achieved a 11-2 regular season record and moved past Washington and Los
Angeles in the playoffs before losing to Oakland, 32-14, in Super
Bowl XI. Fran Tarkenton, despite being in the twilight of his career,
continued to set the offensive tone with nearly 3,000 passing yards
and 17 touchdowns. But it was the defense that earned this team a
spot among the greatest NFL teams ever. Jim Marshall and future Hall of Famers
Paul Krause and Alan Page formed the nucleus of one of the
most dominating defenses in NFL history.

Brett
Favre
|
Brett
Favre led the Pack attack to their first Super Bowl victory in 29
years. Minnesota defeated the Packers in Week 4, but the Packers
would come back to even the score in the final week of the regular
season. They carried the winning momentum into the postseason, where
they outscored their opponents 100-48, including a 35-21 victory over
New England in Super Bowl XXXI. Favre passed for nearly 4,000 yards
and completed 39 touchdown passes to a talented receiving corps that
starred Antonio Freeman and Keith Jackson. Reggie White, Eugene
Robinson and LeRoy Butler highlighted a defense that limited
opponents to single-digit scoring six different times.

Minnesota Vikings

Randy
Moss
Some
of Minnesota's most memorable teams have come in recent years.
Perhaps tops among them are the 1998 team that went 15-1 to win the
NFC Central before falling to Atlanta, 30-27 in overtime, in the NFC
championship game. Randall Cunningham had a resurgence in his career,
thanks in part to the emergence of Randy Moss, the Offensive Rookie
of the Year, who devastated opposing defenses with his speed and
athleticism at the receiver position. Moss burned the Packers for 153
yards and a touchdown en route to taking home Player of the Week
accolades. Moss was tutored throughout his rookie campaign by one of the
best receivers in the NFL, Cris Carter. The dynamic duo combined for
29 touchdowns and nearly 2,500 receiving yards.
