Leading the way was the Denver Broncos Jason Elam whose 129 points in 2004 helped him climb from 19th to 14th all-time in scoring. Elam has recorded 100-point seasons in each of his 12 years in the NFL. Other 100-point scorers during the NFL’s 85th season in 2004 included Matt Stover of the Baltimore Ravens (No. 11th all-time), the New Orleans Saints’ John Carney (No. 10), and Jason Hanson of the Detroit Lions. Hanson was the only newcomer to the Top 20 scorers this past season and currently ranks 20th all-time with 1,336 points.
The game’s second leading scorer of all-time, Morten Andersen, added 99 points in 2004 as a member of the Minnesota Vikings. Steve Christie of the New York Giants also totaled 99 points to climb into 12th all-time.
The other active placekicker in 2004 is the NFL’s career record holder, Gary Anderson of the Tennessee Titans. He added 88 points to bring his career point total to 2,434 points.
