For Austin George, a 12-year-old from Canton, the 2005 Pro Football Hall of Fame festivities will be extra special. Austin has been selected as the official McDonald’s Mascot for the 2005 Hall of Fame Game on August 8, featuring the Miami Dolphins and Chicago Bears.
In a drawing held at the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Wednesday July 27, 2005, Austin was among the 17 semi-finalists who were selected from each of the participating McDonald’s Restaurants in Canton, Massillon, Louisville, and Alliance. Each semi-finalist received a McDonald’s gift bag, pins, coloring book, and a Hall of Fame Game t-shirt.
Austin, a 7th grader at Jackson Middle School, and three other family members will be guests at the pre-enshrinement Hall of Fame brunch. Austin will pose for a photograph with the 2005 Hall of Fame Enshrinees and will be introduced during pre-game ceremonies of the Hall of Fame Game.
Among those present for the drawing were Ron Dougherty, interim executive director of the Pro Football Hall of Fame; Guy Cecchini, owner/operator of the 17 participating McDonald’s; Canton Mayor Janet Weir Creighton; and Ronald McDonald.
