Going to the Super Bowl!
Winning formula: give Riggins the ball 36 times
In back-to-back NFC CHAMPIONSHIP games in the 1980s, the Washington Redskins handed off the football a record 36 times to future Hall of Famer John Riggins. The game plan resulted in a trip to the Super Bowl both times.
Controlling the football
The Dolphins teams of the early 1970s used a durable Hall of Fame fullback to control the ball en route to back-to-back Super Bowl titles. Larry Csonka’s performance against the Raiders in the 1973 AFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME was the perfect illustration of Miami’s effective running attack.
