Madden 2010 Tournament held at Hall
More than 100 gamers showed up at the Pro Football Hall of Fame to compete in a day-long Madden 2010 tournament held by Big City Tourneys on March 13. The participants battled in the Hall’s private events space which is adjacent to an interactive area that includes a Madden video game display. The area is located one floor beneath the Hall of Fame Gallery, home of John Madden’s bronze bust for his contributions to the sport as the coach of the Oakland Raiders.
{GALLERY}The crowd also included nearly 100 spectators who cheered on the gamers who flew in to Canton to play in the tournament. Gamers traveled from places all along the eastern portion of the United States from New Jersey to Florida.
By day’s end, one winner remained standing. Vincent Collins (pictured wearing red ball cap and red shirt in photo gallery) was named the tournament champion. His road to victory was a long one on this day. He advanced to the second heat of the round-robin tournament but lost his first game to “C-von” by a mere three points. He earned a rematch in the elimination game and came away with the win.
In his next game Collins, perhaps mirroring Madden’s potent attack with Ken Stabler at the helm of the Raiders in the ’70s, shook off a three-point deficit by converting a huge 3rd-and-long situation. He scored a touchdown on the play to take a four-point lead and cruised to victory. After easily disposing of his next opponent, Collins advanced to the final eight. With a large gathering of fans cheering, Collins downed “Los” 27-3.
He recovered from two early fumbles in his next game to dispose of “Dynasty” much in part to his MVP of the day, Raiders cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha. The teams battling in the other bracket, “BGJ” and “Fizzy Freddy,” decided to forfeit the title to Collins. The three split the prize package but Collins walked away as the champion.
Big City Tourneys rented the Pro Football Hall of Fame for the tournament. Each year, the Hall of Fame hosts approximately 200 private events ranging from corporate meetings, birthday parties, to wedding receptions and awards dinners.
