Only 267 bronze busts reside in the Hall of Fame Gallery inside the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. They "immortalize" the greatest players, coaches, and contributors that this game has produced. Each week during the 2011 NFL Season we will sit down for a Q&A with one of these legends.

HOBBIES:
I play a little golf but I guess my big hobby now is playing with the grandkids. I have four grandsons and so that’s taken over a lot of the free time I had which I don’t mind.

LAST BOOK YOU READ:
It was “Unbroken.”

FAVORITE MUSIC:
I don’t have one specific, I listen from classic pop to Christian music to Motown to country western. I should say my favorite is dependent on what mood I’m in.

FAVORITE MOVIE:
“Shawshank Redemption.”

FAVORITE FOOD:
No question, Mexican food. There’s nothing like Mom’s homemade tortillas and my wife’s homemade chicken enchiladas.

FAVORITE NFL TEAM AS A CHILD:
It had to be the Kansas City Chiefs, I knew all their starters. Don’t ask me why. I grew up in L.A. and I knew the Chiefs, just about every starter on offense and defense by name.

FAVORITE NFL STADIUM OTHER THAN RIVERFRONT STADIUM:
It was always fun playing back at the (L.A.) Coliseum where I played college ball. I enjoyed that place.

WHY DID YOU PICK NO. 78?
Because 77 wasn’t available and that was the only number they had.

DID YOU HAVE ANY PRE-GAME SUPERSTITIONS?
No, not really. I really wasn’t superstitious other than I just liked getting to the park early. I didn’t like night games.

WHAT’S BETTER ABOUT THE NFL TODAY THAN WHEN YOU PLAYED?
I just think the coverage. Hopefully the fan base is much bigger now because it’s still the greatest team sport around, I believe. I’m happy that it’s going global, I think it should even be more so.

WHAT WAS BETTER ABOUT THE NFL DURING YOUR CAREER THAN THE GAME TODAY?
No Twitter, no Facebook, no social media. It was just going out and playing and had just the local people cover you.

FAVORITE ATHLETE EVER IN ANY SPORT:
Brooks Robinson.

ONE PERSON WHO INFLUENCED YOU MOST IN LIFE:
I’d have to say my mother. Her work ethic, she raised five kids by herself by working two or three jobs. So, she exhibited what it meant to work hard.

TOUGHEST PLAYER YOU FACED:
Probably Bruce Smith.

WHAT MAKES YOU MOST PROUD ABOUT YOUR HALL OF FAME CAREER?
Durability. Being able to play 13 years and answering the bell just about every Sunday.

WHEN IF EVER DID YOU REALIZE YOU MAY SOMEDAY MAKE THE HALL OF FAME?
Probably it wasn’t until four or five years after I retired. It was one of those things. I heard Hall of Fame and thought about Merlin Olsen, Deacon Jones, Gale Sayers, and those types of guys.

HOW DID YOU LEARN OF YOUR HALL OF FAME ELECTION?
I was actually in San Diego in a back room. They asked me if I would hang out in a back room as they made an announcement. And I told Dave Motts (the Hall of Fame’s Vice President – Marketing/Sponsorship) ‘yes’ as long as we had a back door to exit if I didn’t make it. That goes back to superstitions, I didn’t have any. I think some guys believe that they’ll jinx it if they’re there. I thought it’d be exciting if I just happened to be there if I got elected.

WAS YOUR SON MICHAEL YOUR ONLY CHOICE AS A PRESENTER?
Actually I would have loved to have Michael and Michelle, our son and daughter, but I had to pick one.

IF YOU COULD DO YOUR ENSHRINEMENT SPEECH OVER TODAY, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY DIFFERENTLY?
Probably not a whole lot. I think I pretty much I was able to thank everyone, I think that was the key. Thanking everyone during the journey, it starts way before you get into the NFL. And, I’m pretty sure I was able to thank everyone.
