Defensive disruption
Cortez Kennedy entered his third year in the National Football League looking to make a big impact. Unfortunately for Kennedy, his offseason work was put on hold when his best friend, Philadelphia Eagles’ defensive tackle Jerome Brown, was killed in a car accident just before training camp opened.
Deeply affected by the tragedy, Kennedy got back to work and dedicated the 1992 season to his beloved friend and former University of Miami teammate. The Class of 2012 Enshrinee even swapped out his iconic number 96 for Brown’s number 99. What ensued was one of the best seasons ever by a defensive tackle.
Kennedy compiled a career-high 92 tackles and led the Seattle Seahawks with 14 quarterback sacks and four forced fumbles. The disruption he caused to opposing teams earned him All-Pro, Pro Bowl and NFL Defensive Player of the Year honors. Below is a list of the quarterbacks Cortez sacked during the ‘92 season. In all, he sacked 12 different quarterbacks that season among them were two Pro Football Hall of Famers, Troy Aikman and John Elway.
