Governor Kasich touts new tourism bill

On Thursday, Ohio Governor John Kasich held a press conference at the Pro Football Hall of Fame to promote the passage of Senate Bill 314. He recently signed the piece of legislation that will create a pilot program for funding tourism in Ohio. 

Kasich selected the Hall of Fame, one of the state’s most popular tourist destinations, as the location to share his vision for tourism as well as comment on a variety of other issues. Attending the press conference were media, other elected officials, local business leaders, and community dignitaries.

Tourism is a $37 billion industry annually to the state. It also creates 440,000 full-time equivalent jobs for Ohioans. Stark County, the home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, receives two million visitors each year.

Thursday’s press conference, which was held in the Hall of Fame’s new Event Center, marked the second time in 16 months that the governor has visited the Hall of Fame. In March 2011, he held a private meeting at the Hall of Fame with local business leaders.
