New Seahawks uniform preserved

Just prior to the 2012 draft, the National Football League unveiled the new highly innovative uniforms created by Nike for all 32 NFL teams. The Nike Elite 51 uniforms were designed and engineered to focus on creating a system where the baselayer, padding, jersey and pant work in concert. Other new innovations included the integration of Nike Flywire Technology into the neckline to reduce weight and provide lockdown fit over pads, increasing sleeve articulation for better range of motion, and integrating new four-way stretch fabrication to provide a streamlined shrink-wrap fit.
Several teams chose a variety of design changes to their look. The Seattle Seahawks underwent a complete redesign, just their second major overhaul to the uniform design in team history, for the 2012 season. Seattle incorporated the team’s Northwest roots, and even recognizes the fans with a symbolic 12 feathers on each pant leg to symbolize the “12th man.”
As such, the Hall of Fame reached out to the Seahawks so as to preserve the debut of the team’s new home look. Seattle responded by sending Marshawn Lynch’s uniform from the home opener at CenturyLink Field on Sept. 16, 2012.
{GALLERY}Lynch led the way as the Seahawks downed the Dallas Cowboys 27-7 for the Week 2 win. He rushed for a game-high 122 yards, all but 22 coming in the second half. He put the finishing touches on Seattle’s big victory by scoring on a 3-yard touchdown run midway through the fourth quarter.
Included in the shipment to the Hall of Fame were Lynch’s helmet along with his Nike jersey, pants, gloves but not his shoes from that afternoon. An excited Lynch tossed his cleats to some lucky fans following the game. But, shoes worn by the star running back in practice were sent along as part of the donation.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame is home to the world’s largest collection of pro football artifacts and documents. Included in the collection are numerous other pieces related to Seahawks history such as the football caught by Hall of Famer Steve Largent for his then record-setting 99th career touchdown reception; jersey worn by running back Curt Warner in the 1980s; the uniform worn on Jan. 1, 2006 by Shaun Alexander when he set the NFL record for rushing touchdowns in a season; and the shoulder pads worn by Hall of Fame defensive tackle Cortez Kennedy during his 11-year career with the Seahawks.
