Remembering the career of Dave Robinson
Hall of Famers
Published on : 7/21/2013
Dave Robinson is just two weeks away from his enshrinement into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. But before he is immortalized in pro football history, the linebacker was anxious to send several objects near and dear to his heart to the Hall of Fame.
Robinson first excelled at Penn State where he helped lead the Nittany Lions to a victory in the Gator Bowl following the 1961 season. Now on display in a special gallery dedicated solely to the Class of 2013 is the ring Robinson earned after that victory. Visitors can also see the trophy awarded to Robinson when he was named an All-American in 1962.
Robinson also delivered many key items related to his playing days with the Green Bay Packers. While with the team, the three-time Pro Bowler helped the Packers win three straight championships (1965-67). Following the team’s 1965 NFL Title, Coach Vince Lombardi presented all the players’ wives with a ring. The ring presented to Robinson’s wife Elaine, who passed away in 2007, is now in the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s collection.
Two trophies from his Packers career were also sent to the museum. The 1969 Defensive Player of the Year trophy which was awarded by the Pro Football Writers of America and the Lineman of the Game Award from the 1968 Pro Bowl. Finally, and perhaps the most historically significant, are the cleats Robinson wore during both Packers victories in Super Bowls I and II.
