Parcells to receive Hall of Fame ring
Hall of Famers
Published on : 9/13/2013
Coach Bill Parcells will be the first member of the seven-man Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2013 to receive his Hall of Fame ring. Parcells, the only man in NFL history to take four different teams to the playoffs, will be honored at halftime of the New York Giants home opener versus the Denver Broncos on Sunday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.
Parcells, along with guard Larry Allen, wide receiver Cris Carter, defensive tackle Curley Culp, tackle Jonathan Ogden, linebacker Dave Robinson, and defensive tackle Warren Sapp, were formally enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Aug. 3.
It was during that ceremony that Parcells, with help from his presenter George Martin, unveiled the bronze bust that resides permanently in the Hall of Fame. On the eve of that ceremony, Parcells received his Hall of Fame Gold Jacket.
The bust, jacket, and ring are the three physical icons that represent an individual’s induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. All three symbols will be displayed during the ring presentation to Parcells on Sunday. He will wear his Hall of Fame Gold Jacket and his bronze bust will be temporarily removed from the Hall of Fame and shipped to New York for the ring ceremony.
Joining in the celebration will be five other Giants Hall of Famers – quarterback Y.A. Tittle; linebackers Harry Carson, Sam Huff, and Lawrence Taylor; and halfback Frank Gifford. The busts of those legends will also be displayed on the field alongside Parcells’ bronzed likeness.
Parcells is the 23rd modern-era coach and the 19th longtime member of the Giants franchise to be enshrined into the Hall of Fame.
