Williams helps Hall of Fame cover history

{GALLERY}Class of 2014 enshrinee Aeneas Williams exhibited many unique gifts on the football field during his 14-season National Football League career. That excellence on the gridiron is represented by the many artifacts he sent recently to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The collection from the former Arizona Cardinals and St. Louis Rams defensive back includes a jersey from Southern University, a 1994 All-Madden Team jacket, a 1996 Pro Bowl locker plate, 1999 Pro Bowl jersey and pants, Cardinals jersey and helmet, a game ball awarded to Williams in honor of his record 104-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown, a Cardinals Ring of Honor collector coin featuring Williams, the jersey, gloves and shoes worn during his final years with the Rams, a Louisville Slugger bat with Williams name engraved on it in honor of a big hit he had in 2004, a prayer plaque and numerous magazine and newspaper articles featuring Williams.

Also in the collection is the Bart Starr Athletes in Action Award Williams earned in 2000. The trophy is awarded each year to a player who best exemplifies outstanding character and leadership in the home, on the field and in the community. 

Williams’ artifacts are currently on display in a special exhibit devoted solely to the Class of 2014.

Williams and his fellow classmates – Derrick Brooks, Ray Guy, Claude Humphrey, Walter Jones, Andre Reed and Michael Strahan – will be formally enshrined into the Hall of Fame on Saturday, Aug. 2 at 7 p.m. ET.
