Seattle Delivers Record Performance to take over NFC West

The Seattle Seahawks are making a pitch for the number one seed in the upcoming playoffs. Seahawks amassed a franchise-record 596 yards on Sunday Night Football to dismantle the NFC West-leading Arizona Cardinals 35-6. With an 11-4 record, Seattle is now tied for the division lead and the best record in the NFC. Russell Wilson was the game’s top performer. He threw for 339 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 88 yards and a TD.

New England’s Win Provided Much History

The New England Patriots, already the champs of the AFC East, captured a first-round bye in the playoffs after a hard-fought 17-16 victory over the New York Jets. They now are the first team in the modern playoff era to earn first-round byes in five straight seasons.

New England’s win was also the Patriots' 250th in the 368 total games under owner Robert Kraft. The victory tied Kraft with Hall of Fame owner/coach George Halas for the fastest an owner has reached the 250-win milestone.


Bill Belichick continued his march up the coaching win list. The triumph over the Jets broke a tie with Hall of Famer Curly Lambeau for fourth place in overall victories with 230. Next on the list for Belichick, another Hall of Fame legend, Tom Landry who stands at 270 overall wins.

Record Receptions

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown helped his team lock up a playoff spot on Sunday. Brown led his team with seven receptions for 72 yards and a touchdown in Pittsburgh’s 20-12 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. Brown now has a total of 122 catches on the season. Only three players in history have had more receptions in a season.


Marvin Harrison
currently owns the record with 143 receptions. Harrison is a semifinalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2015. Tune in on Jan. 8, 2015 at 9 p.m. on NFL Network to see if he makes the finalist list.

Johnson Catches 1,000

Andre Johnson pulled in a team-high six receptions for 65 yards to help the Houston Texans to a 25-13 victory over the Baltimore Ravens. The 13-year veteran is now the 10th player in NFL history to reach 1,000 career receptions (1,002). He passed Hines Ward for ninth-most in NFL history.


Rookie Record

Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. of the New York Giants became the first rookie receiver in NFL history with 130 receiving yards and a touchdown reception in three consecutive games on Sunday. He finished the day with 8 catches for 148 yards and two touchdowns in the Giants 37-27 win against the St. Louis Rams.

Beckham Jr. has hauled in 79 receptions in his last 11 games, the most in NFL history for a player in his first 11 career games.

He also set a franchise rookie record with his 10th and 11th TD catches and now owns the Giants record for most touchdown receptions by a rookie.






Romo on Top

Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys dominated the Indianapolis Colts 42-7 on Sunday to win the NFC East for the first time since 2009. Romo, who only had two incompletions on the day, finished the game with 18 completions for 218 yards and 4 touchdowns. In doing so, he passed a Gold Jacket in the Cowboys' record book.


Romo has spent his entire career with the franchise and has compiled 32,971 passing yards and 240 touchdowns on 2,721 completions in 10 seasons.
