The Pro Football Hall of Fame kicked off the Gold Jacket 5k Race series last Saturday in Canton, Ohio. Gold Jacket and Miami Dolphins legend Dan Marino was on hand to start the race and high-five runners as they crossed the finish line.
“The inaugural Gold Jacket 5k Race series got off to a great start led by Gold Jacket Dan Marino," stated George Veras, the Hall’s Executive Vice President, Chief Revenue Officer and Executive Producer. "It was the perfect kickoff to a weekend which included Dan’s participation at the Gold Jacket Great Days event and the second annual Hall of Fame Marathon and Half Marathon that had over 3,000 participants."
Over 1,500 runners participated in the first of eight races. The other races will be held in different cities including the following:
Cleveland - June 7th
Cincinnati - June 14th
Pittsburgh - June 28th
Baltimore - July 12th
Detroit - July 19th
Chicago - August 2nd
Buffalo - August 16th
”The Gold Jacket 5K Race Series is an exciting family experience for anyone who wants to walk, jog, or run. The event is not only a run/walk, but an opportunity to visit the Pro Football Hall of Fame, participate in the interactive family fan fest, and gain access to local running vendors and groups, said HOF Marathon and Gold Jacket 5k race director Jim Chaney.”
Gold Jackets Paul Warfield (Cleveland), Anthony Muñoz (Cincinnati) and Andre Reed (Buffalo) are scheduled to high-five finishers in their respective cities.
Other Gold Jacket participants for the remaining cities will be named at a later date.
There was a special moment during the race when Airman Basic Joshua Wright, who just back from basic training and en route to Turkey, surprised his sister-in-law Ashley Fowler at the finish line.
The fastest man and woman from each race to finish first will receive an all expense paid trip to Canton to compete in the Championship Race held in September.
Registration is still open for the upcoming races. Sign up now>>>
