Yepremian Remembered
The Pro Football Hall of Fame’s mission is to Honor the Heroes of the Game, Preserve its History, Promote its Values and Celebrate Excellence EVERYWHERE. This includes not only Hall of Famers but also any former player (NFL Legend) who has contributed to the growth and success of the Game.
Former Miami Dolphins kicker Garo Yepremian passed away on Friday at the age of 70.
Yepremian spent 14 seasons in the NFL, including stints with the Detroit Lions, New Orleans Saints and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He connected on 210 of his 313 field goal attempts and 444 extra point kicks for a total of 1,074 points during his career.
The two-time Pro Bowler helped the Dolphins go undefeated in the 1972 season and win back-to-back Super Bowls for the first time in franchise history (Super Bowls VII and VIII).
"When you think back about Garo there were a lot of great moments and some that were not so great. No matter what, though, he had a positive attitude all the time. He always wanted to be involved in everything and I enjoyed having him on the team. He was unique in Dolphins history and will be missed," said Gold Jacket and former Dolphins head coach Don Shula.
Yepremian etched his name into history when he kicked a 37-yard field goal during the playoffs against the Kansas City Chiefs in the second overtime to end the longest game in NFL history.
