Anthony and Michael Muñoz Host Character Camps at Super Bowl LI

With all of the excitement and festivities leading up to Super Bowl LI, the father and son tag team of Hall of Famer Anthony and Michael Muñoz kick off a series of character football camps in and around the Houston area.

Starting on Monday, Jan. 30, in conjunction with the NFL, the duo will host the NFL Play 60 Character Camp. The camp is part of the NFL Experience Driven by Genesis. It will include 300 predominantly Hispanic youth from the Houston area, ages 9 to 14. The boys and girls will be treated to special guests, a current Atlanta Falcons player and a New England Patriots Legend. Along with learning the fundamentals of the game, Anthony and Michael will use those same tools to teach the campers about character through football.

“It’s been a cool journey for myself,” said Michael Muñoz, vice president of character development Pro Football Hall of Fame. “Growing up being the son of Anthony Muñoz, I’ve been around the game of football my entire life. I really understand what the game can teach you and I love the opportunity, whenever I get in front of kids, to talk about how the game of football teaches and demonstrates integrity, discipline and self-awareness.”

The fun doesn’t stop there, Tuesday, Jan. 31, the Knights of Columbus along with the Muñozs will host a coat drive at Our Lady of Guadalupe elementary school in Houston. Approximately 100 campers will receive back packs, school supplies and Hall of Famer offensive tackle ANTHONY MUÑOZ will address the kids about making good decisions in their lives.

“For ten years my Dad had been activating these camps through his foundation,” noted Michael. “He has been able to build off the work he has already established in the Cincinnati community. Now working with the NFL and the Pro Football Hall of Fame, it’s really going to give kids around the world a great opportunity to learn about the importance of character in their lives.”

To wrap up the festivities, Wednesday, Feb. 1, TV Azteca will host a free Character Camp and NFL FLAG Experience on the field at LeRoy Crump Stadium. The event will host 150 predominantly Hispanic youth from the Houston area. The non-contact football camp will be led by ANTHONY MUÑOZ and current Houston Texan WHITNEY MERCILUS. The format will be the same as Monday’s NFL Play 60 Character Camp. The kids will have a character development class and at the end of the event, the campers will play in a mini flag football tournament.

“This will be an action pack couple of days,” said an excited Michael. “The kids of Houston are going to have a great time.”
