Former NFL Players, Members of Congress and U.S. Capitol Police to Participate in 2017 Congressional Football Game

In an ongoing show of unity and camaraderie, members of Congress, along with NFL Legends, will play the U.S. Capitol Police in the 2017 Congressional Football Game, the NFL announced today. The game is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 7 PM at Hotchkiss Field on the campus of Gallaudet University. Proceeds from this year's event will benefit three nonprofit organizations: United States Capitol Police Memorial Fund, Our Military Kids and A Advantage 4 Kids. The NFL Foundation will again be a sponsor of the game and contributions will benefit these organizations.

Several NFL Legends will participate as coaches and players including former Washington Redskins KEN HARVEY, SANTANA MOSS and GARY CLARK, as well as JOHN BOOTY and HERSCHEL WALKER. The 2017 rosters are available here.

"The Congressional Football Game for Charity is a wonderful way to honor the service and the sacrifice of the brave men and women of the U.S. Capitol Police and our armed forces," said NFL Senior Vice President of Government Affairs JOCELYN MOORE. "The National Football League is pleased to once again be a part of this event in support of the courageous men and women in uniform who keep us safe here at home and abroad."

"Football has the unique ability to bring people of all different backgrounds together," said NFL Vice President of Youth and High School Football ROMAN OBEN. "We are excited to extend this event to area youth and celebrate the local community."

During a special halftime presentation, U.S. Capitol Police Special Agents DAVID BAILEY and CRYSTAL GRINER will be honored for their live-saving heroics during the Republican team's practice for the Congressional Charity Baseball Game in June.

Launched in 2005, the Congressional Football Game was first organized to honor and support the men and women of the U.S. Capitol Police and to support families of fallen officers. The game is a family-friendly event that brings together Congressional and law enforcement communities in support of worthy causes.

Prior to the game, the NFL will host a Play Football Clinic at 5:45 PM for area youth, including the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington, the D.C. Department of Parks and Recreation and students who attend Gallaudet University's elementary and middle schools. A USA Football Master Trainer will lead participants through the clinic. Kids of all ability levels will have the opportunity to learn skills and drills and Heads Up Football blocking and tackling techniques.
