The Mission: Central State's Hugh Douglas joins the show

As the Pro Football Hall of Fame ramps up for one of the greatest gatherings in HBCU football, the newest episode of “THE MISSION” is now available.

During this SPECIAL EDITION of The Mission podcast, host Jamir Howerton provides viewers with an exclusive interview with Central State alum and 2019 Black College Football Hall of Famer Hugh Douglas.

Douglas shares his valued lessons learned from his playing days at Central State University that prepared him for an amazing 10-year NFL career.

A first-round draft pick (16th overall) of the New York Jets in 1995, Douglas made an immediate impact, winning the AP’s Defensive Rookie of the Year award following a 10-sack season and making the NFL’s All-Rookie Team. After three years with the Jets, he was acquired by the Philadelphia Eagles in a trade during the 1998 offseason. As a member of the Eagles, he earned three consecutive trips to the Pro Bowl (2000-02) and a first-team All-Pro nod (2000).

The former CSU Marauder totaled three seasons with double-digit sacks for the Eagles, including a career-best 15 quarterback takedowns in 2000. After a season in Jacksonville, he returned to Philadelphia for his final NFL season in 2004, helping the team reach Super Bowl XXXIX.

This fall, Douglas and former Eagles pass rusher Trent Cole (2005-2014) will be inducted into the Eagles Hall of Fame on Sunday, Nov. 27.

These days, Douglas is one-half of “The Morning Show with John & Hugh” on Atlanta's 92.9 The Game and has spent time with ESPN, 94WIP and FOX29 during his post-football broadcasting career.

Tickets are still available for the Black College Football Hall of Fame Classic during Labor Day Weekend at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium, where the Central State University Marauders square off against the Winston-Salem State University Rams.
