Cleats from Xavier Worthy’s record-breaking 40-yard dash on display in Canton

Xavier Worthy cemented himself as the fastest recorded player in the NFL after his 4.21-second 40-yard dash during the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine.
After breaking the record on Saturday, March 2, while participating alongside 320 other prospects in preparation for the 2024 NFL Draft, Worthy sent his tank top-style jersey and shoes he wore to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
These are the first artifacts the Hall of Fame has ever collected that were used by a prospect at the NFL Combine.
A wide receiver out of the University of Texas, Worthy broke fellow wide receiver John Ross III’s record of 4.22 seconds from 2017.
“I definitely knew I had a chance. I didn't know it was going to happen in reality,” he said in an interview. “I came in knowing I was going to run nothing slower than 4.25."
After his first attempt clocked in at 4.25, Worthy stepped up to attempt the 40-yard dash a second time because he knew a second try would result in a better time.
“When I was training, I always ran faster on my second 40,” Worthy said.
In the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, Worthy was selected with the 28th overall pick by the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.
Worthy’s jersey and shoes from the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine are now featured in the Hall of Fame’s “Pro Football Today Gallery.”
