Since 2009, the Pro Football Hall of Fame has housed the newest Vince Lombardi Trophy, serving as its steward until its presentation by the National Football League at season’s end at the Super Bowl.
In a special, impromptu ceremony Friday morning in the “Lamar Hunt Super Bowl Gallery,” three players whose teams captured a Vince Lombardi Trophy during their Hall of Fame careers placed the 2024 season’s most coveted prize on display.
RONDE BARBER, LeROY BUTLER and DREW PEARSON — in Canton for NFL Flag Championship weekend — carefully swapped a replica place-holder trophy with the official version for the upcoming season.
Several Hall of Famers previously have welcomed the Vince Lombardi Trophy to Canton. That list includes LYNN SWANN, JIM TAYLOR and former coach JIMMY JOHNSON.
Late in some seasons, the trophy has received a ceremonial sendoff to the Super Bowl city. Most recently, former Green Bay Packers linebacker DAVE ROBINSON helped prepare the 2023 season’s trophy for its trip to Las Vegas for Super Bowl LVIII — a game the Kansas City Chiefs won for the franchise’s fourth NFL crown.
The trophy was renamed for the late VINCE LOMBARDI, victorious in five NFL championships that included Super Bowls I and II.
A regulation-sized football of sterling silver mounted in a kicked position on a pyramid-like stand of three concave sides, the Vince Lombardi Trophy stands 20.75 inches tall and weighs 107.3 ounces. The words “Vince Lombardi Trophy” and the edition’s Super Bowl numerals are engraved on the base along the NFL shield.
Fans can now view the Vince Lombardi Trophy they hope to see their team hoist in the “Lamar Hunt Super Bowl Gallery.” Admittance into the gallery is included in admission into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
