Extra Points from NFL Week 2 games

Each week, the National Football League releases statistical highlights from Sunday’s games played during the 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. ET windows. The Pro Football Hall of Fame will look at some of these highlights and how they relate to members of the Hall and the history of football. From Week 2:

  • San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy had his eighth career game with a passer rating of 140 or higher, passing Ben Roethlisberger (seven games) and Hall of Famers ROGER STAUBACH (seven) and KURT WARNER (seven) for the most such games in his first five seasons.

  • Purdy also became the first player to compile these stats in an NFL game:

    • Complete at least 90 percent of his passes
    • Pass for at least 285 yards
    • Pass for two touchdowns
    • Rush for one touchdown

  • Christian McCaffrey scored his 50th touchdown for the 49ers’ franchise (32 rushing, 18 receiving), making him the third player in NFL history to record 50 scrimmage touchdowns with multiple teams (Carolina Panthers; 32 rushing, 18 receiving). He joins Hall of Famers MARSHALL FAULK (85 touchdowns with the Rams, 51 with the Colts) and RANDY MOSS (92 with the Vikings, 50 with the Patriots) as the only players to accomplish this feat.

  • Minnesota Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson now has 8,627 career receiving yards at age 27. He passed DeAndre Hopkins (8,602 receiving yards) for the second-most receiving yards by a player under the age of 28, trailing only Hall of Famer RANDY MOSS (9,142).

  • The Bengals’ Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase connected for their 50th touchdown, making them the fourth duo in NFL history to do so while both players are under age 30, joining DAN MARINO and Mark Clayton (Dolphins, 65), John Hadl and LANCE ALWORTH (Chargers, 53) and Daunte Culpepper and RANDY MOSS (Vikings, 53).

  • Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, who became the franchise’s all-time leader in touchdown passes this week, had his 13th game with at least four touchdown passes and a passer rating of 120 or higher, tying Hall of Famer PEYTON MANNING (13 games) and Russell Wilson (13) for the second-most such games by a player in his first 11 seasons. Only Patrick Mahomes (15 games, 10th season) has recorded more such games.

  • Kirk Cousins of the Las Vegas Raiders became the third quarterback age 38 or older with at least three touchdown passes in each of his team’s first two games of a season. He joins Tom Brady (Patriots, 2015; Buccaneers, 2021) and Hall of Famer PEYTON MANNING (Broncos, 2014) as the players to accomplish this feat.
