The NFL's first Championship Game occurred in 1933 with the Bears beating the Giants, 23-21. The League did not have an official Championship game during its first 13 years of existence; therefore, the League champion was determined by best regular season record. In the 1920 season, no official standings were maintained so the Akron Pros were awarded the championship in a meeting on April 30, 1921. In 1932, the Chicago Bears and Portsmouth Spartans finished regularly scheduled play tied for first; the Bears won a playoff game, 9-0, which counted in the regular standings. Below are the champions of the League during those 13 years. |
