The Haggar Gold Jacket Report is a weekly update on recent news surrounding the very select group of men who’ve earned a place in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Hall of Famers Birthdays
Aug. 25 - Charlie Sanders (1946)
CORTEZ KENNEDY was just formally enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame with his Class of 2012 peers on Aug. 4 in Canton, Ohio. Come Sept. 16 during the Seattle Seahawks home opener against the Dallas Cowboys, Cortez will receive another honor when he has his number 96 retired by the club.

The Hall of Fame defensive tackle, which spent 11 seasons (1990-2000) with the Seahawks, will have his number join three others in the rafters at CenturyLink Field next to No. 80 for Hall of Famer STEVE LARGENT, No. 12 for the fans/12th Man and No. 71 for six-time, first-team All-Pro Walter Jones.

Next Wednesday, Aug. 28, legends of the game such as JOE MONTANA, MICHAEL IRVIN, TROY AIKMAN, SHANNON SHARPE, JOE GREENE, WARREN MOON, VINCE LOMBARDI and TOM LANDRY, return to the field when MADDEN NFL ’13 is released by EA Sports.

Through the Madden Ultimate Team feature fans can earn, buy, auction, and trade players to build the ultimate team of NFL greats past and present and make a run for an NFL title. With the Connected Careers feature gamers can also create a personal legacy and track progress compared to the greatest players and coaches to ever impact the game. When one’s career comes to a close, the legacy score will determine whether or not the gamer is selected as a Pro Football Hall of Fame player.

The game will also allow fans to play games in historic stadiums such as Fawcett Stadium which is home to both the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Ceremony and the annual NFL/Hall of Fame Game.

In March, the Haggar Gold Jacket Report featured an article about Pro Football Hall of Famer DEION SANDERS creating and funding the Prime Prep Academy. The two-campus Academy opens its inaugural classes on Monday, Aug. 27. The charter school will teach both boys and girls from kindergarten through 12th grade.

Sanders explained that "We plan on marrying the best of teachers academically, some of the best students academically, some of the best athletes together -- the best attitudes, the best passion and desire all intertwined to educate these guys to raise company CEOs, and not employees."

It was released this week that Prime Prep’s basketball team will be added to the 40th Annual City of Palms Classic’s elite 16-team high school basketball tournament field.

“This is about giving Deion’s first team an opportunity in the City of Palms,” said Donnie Wilkie, the tournaments vice president. “They’re clearly going to be good enough to play at that level. And there’s only going to be one first year for Deion’s school. He’s as prominent an athlete as any who has come from Southwest Florida. In my opinion, he deserves that honor and that opportunity…I’m pretty excited about it.”
