An All-America halfback at the University of Oregon, Renfro was drafted by the Cowboys in the second round of the 1964 NFL Draft.
As a rookie, Renfro led the Cowboys with seven interceptions. He also led the NFL with 10 interceptions in 1969.
Mel earned Pro Bowl bids in each of his first 10 NFL seasons.
Mel played in eight NFL/NFC championship games and four Super Bowls during his career with Dallas.
Renfro began his career at safety but switched to cornerback in his fifth season.
Renfro intercepted 52 passes for 626 yards during his Hall of Fame career.
Mel was enshrined into the Hall of Fame on July 27, 1996.
