Following a stellar career at Bishop College, Emmitt Thomas joined the Kansas City Chiefs in 1966.

Thomas recorded 58 career interceptions. He intercepted a pass in every season he played except his rookie year.

He led the American Football League in interceptions in 1969 with nine and added a second interception title in 1974 when he picked off a team and a career-high 12 passes.

With Thomas as a key member of the their defense, the Chiefs won AFL titles in 1966 and 1969.

Thomas picked off at least one pass in each of the Chiefs' playoff victories in the 1969 NFL postseason including one in Kansas City's 23-7 win over the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl IV.

Thomas's career intercpetion total ranked fifth at the time of his retirement and is still fourth best among true cornerbacks.
