Sunday, September 21

Jacksonville at Indianapolis (Colts lead series 4-0)
Dec. 10, 1995/Week 15
Aaron Bailey returned the opening kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown and then recorded a 14-yard TD pass from backup Craig Erickson who started in place of the injured Jim Harbaugh. The Colts scored after recovering an onside kick in the fourth quarter to build a lead that offset the offensive production of the Jaguars. QB Mark Brunell threw for 312 yards and 3 TDs. Final Score: Indianapolis 41, JACKSONVILLE 31

Kansas City at Houston (this marks the first regular season meeting between the Chiefs and Texans)
Aug. 17, 2002/Preseason Week 3
Running back Priest Holmes scored the game's first touchdown when he ran around left end for a 10-yard TD run that capped the Chiefs' opening drive. Morten Andersen kicked four field goals and rookie defensive end R-Kal Truluck recorded a pair of sacks to pace the Chiefs to a win. Final Score: KANSAS CITY 19, Houston 9

 

 Clint Jones

Minnesota at Detroit (Vikings lead series 52-29-2)
Nov. 15, 1970/Week 9
The Vikings Clint Jones scored three touchdowns on runs of 3, 1, and 5 yards. His final TD was the game clincher with just 1:23 remaining and capped an 80-yard drive orchestrated by QB Gary Cuozzo. The Lions' Bobby Williams had an 85-yard kickoff return in the first quarter. Final Score: MINNESOTA 24, Detroit 20

New Orleans at Tennessee (Titans lead series 5-4-1)
Oct. 3, 1971/Week 3
The Oilers came from behind with a 70-yard TD pass from Charley Johnson to Charlie Joiner in the final four minutes. That was followed by a 44-yard field goal by Mark Moseley with 59 seconds to play. The Saints' Charlie Durkee booted a 37-yarder with nine seconds to go to tie it. Final Score: NEW ORLEANS 13, HOUSTON 13

N.Y. Jets at New England
(Jets lead series 47-37-1. Patriots lead post-season series 1-0)
Sept. 16, 1960/Week 2
The Patriots scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter at the Polo Grounds to earn the first win in franchise history. The winning touchdown came on a 52-yard fumble return by defensive back Chuck Shonta. The Titans had built a comfortable lead with the help of QB Al Dorow's three TD passes. Final Score: Boston 28, NEW YORK 24

 

 Greg Lloyd

Pittsburgh at Cincinnati (Steelers lead series 38-27)
Nov. 10, 1991/Week 11
QB Neil O'Donnell hooked up with Eric Green on a 26-yard TD 6:32 into overtime to give the Steelers the victory. The winning score was set up when LB Greg Lloyd stripped the ball from Bengals' RB Ickey Woods. O'Donnell threw for 309 yards and 3 TDs while the Bengals' Boomer Esiason totaled 361 yards passing and one TD. Final Score: Pittsburgh 33, CINCINNATI 27 (OT)

Tampa Bay at Atlanta (Buccaneers lead series 11-8)
Sept. 24, 1978/Week 4
QB Doug Williams connected with Jim O'Bradovich on a 15-yard TD pass midway through the fourth quarter to propel the Bucs to their second straight win. Both teams blocked kicks in the first quarter. The Falcons blocked a punt for a safety, and Mike Washington returned a blocked field goal 79 yards for a Tampa Bay touchdown. Final Score: TAMPA BAY 14, Atlanta 9

 

 "Turk" Edwards

Green Bay at Arizona (Packers lead series 41-21-4. Packers also lead post-season series 1-0)
Nov. 20, 1921

Hall of Famers Curly Lambeau and Paddy Driscoll each kicked field goals as the Cardinals and Packers played to a 3-3 tie. Playing on an extremely slippery field, Lambeau kicked a 25-yarder in the third quarter. Driscoll drop kicked a 35-yard field goal to tie the game in the fourth quarter. Final Score: CHICAGO 3, Green Bay 3

N.Y. Giants at Washington (Giants lead series 79-57-4. Post-season series is tied at 1-1)
Oct. 8, 1933/Week 4
Hall of Famer Turk Edwards blocked an extra point in the third quarter that proved to be decisive in the Redskins' thrilling win at Fenway Park. Edwards' blocked PAT came following a 15-yard run by Stew Clancy. Harry Newman scored in the final quarter on a 90-yard run for the Giants. Final Score: BOSTON 21, New York 20

 

James Harris

St. Louis at Seattle (Rams lead series 6-3)
Oct. 31, 1976/Week 8
Halloween turned out to be a nightmare for the expansion Seahawks who suffered the worst loss of their inaugural season. Rams QB James Harris returned after missing two games with an injury to lead L.A. He threw for 208 yards and two touchdowns as the Rams moved into first place in the NFC West. Final Score: LOS ANGELES 45, Seattle 6

Baltimore at San Diego (Ravens lead series 2-1)
Nov. 15, 1998/Week 11
San Diego's defense recorded six sacks and intercepted two passes to defeat Baltimore. The Chargers limited the Ravens to a total of just eight first downs and capped the day with the Ravens' failing to get a first down on their final drive of the game. Final Score: SAN DIEGO 14, Baltimore 13


 

 Leroy Kelly

Cleveland at San Francisco (Browns lead series 9-6. The two teams also faced each other 8 times in the All-America Football Conference with the Browns beating San Francisco six of the times. Cleveland also defeated San Francisco in the 1949 AAFC Championship Game)
Nov. 3, 1968/Week 8
The Browns rallied from an 11-point deficit despite the fact that two starting defensive lineman - Bill Glass and Jim Kanicki - were lost to injuries in the first half. Hall of Fame running back Leroy Kelly sparked the Browns offense by rushing for 174 yards. Kicker Don Cockroft kicked four field goals as Cleveland won for the third straight week. Final Score: Cleveland 33, SAN FRANCISCO 21


 

Isiah Robertson

Buffalo at Miami (Dolphins lead series 46-27-1. Bills lead post-season series 3-1)
Sept. 7, 1980/Week 1
The Bills ended a 20-game losing streak to the Dolphins and fans celebrated by tearing down the goal posts. Rookie running back Joe Cribbs' game-winning touchdown was set up when linebacker Isiah Robertson intercepted Don Strock at midfield and returned the ball to the Miami 11-yard line. Final Score: BUFFALO 17, Miami 7

Monday, September 22

Oakland at Denver (Raiders lead series 52-31-2. Post-season series tied at 1-1)
Dec. 15, 1963/Week 13
The game marked the second meeting in three weeks between the Raiders and Broncos. Oakland was led by quarterback Tom Flores who threw five touchdown passes to keep the Raiders division title hopes alive. Flores connected twice with both Art Powell and Clem Daniels and threw a TD to Bo Roberson on the first play of the game. Final Score: OAKLAND 35, Denver 31
