2004 Student Art Contest

A drawing by Rachel Shallenberger, a fourth grader at North Nimishillen Elementary School in Louisville, Ohio, earned first place honors in the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s 2004 Student Art Contest.

Approximately 3,500 fourth and fifth graders from Stark County participated in the contest, which is a part of the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Educational Outreach Program.  In all, classes of 160 teachers from 65 schools and 16 districts took part in the educational-based art contest.  Students were instructed to put their artistic talents into a drawing to welcome out-of-town visitors to Stark County during the 2004 Hall of Fame Festival.  Each of the drawings will be placed in area hotel rooms to welcome those visitors in August.  The only criteria for the artwork were for the students to make drawings that depicted football activities, the Pro Football Hall of Fame, or Pro Football Hall of Fame Festival activities.

For her winning entry, Rachel won a replica autograph football that includes the signatures of each member of the Class of 2004 in a collector’s case with an engraved plaque.  Also, she received four tickets to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.  In addition to that, Rachel and her classmates in Delana Leahy’s class at North Nimishillen were treated to a pizza party.  Rachel, 10, is the daughter of Randy and Barb Shallenberger.

Second and third place prizes were also awarded.  Kyle Marcus, 11, of Orchard Hill Elementary School in North Canton, Ohio (teacher, Lori Anderson) earned second place.  For his efforts, he received a replica Class of 2004 autographed football in a collector’s case, four tickets to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and Hall of Fame pins for his entire class.  He is the son of Larry and Nancy Marcus.

Karissa Schroeter, a 9-year-old at Sauder Elementary School in Massillon, Ohio (teacher, Susan Amedeo) won third place.  The daughter of Tom and Kim Schroeter, Karissa won a mini football in a collector’s case, four tickets to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and Hall of Fame pins for her entire class.

The three winning entries will be on display in the Hall of Fame during the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement celebration.

The judges for the contest included staff members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and Pro Football Hall of Fame Festival.
