On the night of Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012, one NFL team will rejoice as they hoist the Vince Lombardi Trophy after winning Super Bowl XLVI at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. But, until that time, the closest anyone can get to the trophy awarded to the Super Bowl champions will be to visit the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

This season's trophy was placed on exhibit Monday night. It marked the third straight year that the NFL has allowed the Hall of Fame to serve as the temporary home of the coveted trophy until it is awarded next February.
Hall of Fame teammates Mel Renfro and Rayfield Wright who won a pair of Super Bowls with the Dallas Cowboys were granted the honor of placing the trophy on display. Renfro and Wright were flanked by 21 other Hall of Famers who were in town to play in the annual Hall of Fame Enshrinee Golf Classic on Tuesday. They were also joined by Dave Peppard, a tournament participant, who for the second straight year bid at auction to earn the chance to join Renfro and Wright for the presentation. He appropriately adorned a Roger Staubach jersey as he walked the trophy to its place with the two Cowboys legends.
Fans visiting the Hall of Fame between now and the playoffs can enjoy getting a glimpse at the impressive sterling silver trophy that will go to this season's NFL champions. The Vince Lombardi Trophy is a regulation-size silver football mounted in a kicking position on a pyramid-like stand of three concave sides. The trophy stands 21 inches tall, weighs 7 pounds, and is valued in excess of $25,000.
