Humphrey donates artifacts to HOF
{GALLERY}Claude Humphrey reached a level of excellence on the playing field that earned him election to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in February. Recently the Class of 2014 enshrinee sent many pieces from his personal collection of memorabilia to the Hall.
The collection from the former Atlanta Falcons and Philadelphia Eagles defensive end includes his 1974, 1975, 1978 Pro Bowl commemoratives, 1968 Defensive Rookie of the Year Trophy, the Big Jock Award given by his former coach and Hall of Famer Norm Van Brocklin for having the hardest hit in a game, the Sack Award for leading the team in sacks during a season, the Atlanta and Georgia Sports Hall of Fame plaques, and photos from his personal life and career.
The six-time Pro Bowler was not only recognized during his career for his greatness on the field, but off the field as well. One of the most unique artifacts in the donation was a certificate of appreciation from former President of the United States Richard Nixon. The certificate was presented to Humphrey for his efforts to fight against drug abuse.
Another piece of the collection worth noting is a photo of Humphrey sparring with boxing legend Muhammad Ali.
Humphrey’s memorabilia will be displayed in a gallery dedicated to the Class of 2014.
