ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - The Volcano Vista Hawks 9-year-old YAFL football team is headed to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.

The Hawks got a golden ticket to the Youth National Championship after winning at the state and regional level.

"It's a great experience," said Hawks head coach Caesar Meija. "Especially nine years old playing football out here and being able to go up there and see the NFL and the pros. This gives them a dream to look forward too."

They are one of three teams from New Mexico going to the event. Rio Rancho is sending a team of 11-year-olds. La Cueva is sending a 14-year-old team. Once at the event, players will be given a tour of the Hall of Fame.

"It's just going to be a dream come true," said Hawks offensive lineman Eli Bickel. "I mean, I wanted to go to the Hall of Fame ever since I knew about football. I mean because all the greatest are there from Joe Montana to Jerry Rice."

The Hawks will leave December 11. If they are able to win games they will be champions among 9-year-olds. The Hawks have set up a go fund me page on Facebook with hopes of collecting enough funds to guarantee their trip will actually happen.
