Extra Points from NFL Week 3 Games

Each week, the National Football League releases statistical highlights from Sunday’s games played during the 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. ET windows. The Pro Football Hall of Fame will look at some of these highlights and how they relate to members of the Hall and the history of football. From Week 3:

• The Baltimore Ravens defeated the Dallas Cowboys 34-31, as kicker Tyler Loop converted a 56-yard game-winning field goal as time expired to win the NFL’s first game in Rio de Janeiro.

• Ravens running back Derrick Henry continues to etch his name in the record books. He had two rushing touchdowns, bringing his career total to 135 (including the postseason). He surpassed Hall of Famer MARCUS ALLEN (134) for third in NFL history. Only Hall of Famers EMMITT SMITH (183) and LaDAINIAN TOMLINSON (151) scored more rushing touchdowns.

• Aaron Rodgers, with his Steelers’ victory on Sunday, brought his career regular-season win total to 165. This ties him with Ben Roethlisberger (165) for fifth on the NFL’s list, trailing Tom Brady (251 wins) and Hall of Famers BRETT FAVRE (186), PEYTON MANNING (186) and DREW BREES (172).

• Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes recorded his 97th game with multiple touchdown passes, surpassing Hall of Famer PEYTON MANNING (96 games) for second such games (including postseason), in a player’s first 10 NFL seasons. Only Russell Wilson (100 games) recorded more.

• Quarterback Josh Allen now has scored six rushing touchdowns for the Bills this season, making him the fourth player with at least six rushing touchdowns in nine consecutive seasons, joining Hall of Famers MARSHALL FAULK (10 from 1994-2003), LaDAINIAN TOMLINSON (10 from 2001-2010) and JIM BROWN (nine from 1957-1965).

• The Detroit Lions’ duo of Jahmyr Gibbs and Amon-Ra St. Brown tied the Buffalo Bills Hall of Fame duo of THURMAN THOMAS and ANDRE REED for the fourth-most NFL games (23) in which both players score a touchdown. Only EMMITT SMITH and MICHAEL IRVIN (Dallas Cowboys; 32 games), LENNY MOORE and RAYMOND BERRY (Baltimore Colts; 31) and EDGERRIN JAMES and MARVIN HARRISON (Indianapolis Colts; 25) teamed up more often.

• Wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba totaled 10 receptions for 128 yards for the Seahawks to:
  • Become the fourth player in the Super Bowl era with six touchdown receptions in his first three games, joining Hall of Famers CALVIN JOHNSON (2011) and MARVIN HARRISON (1999) as well as Daryl Turner (1985).
  • Become the second NFL player with at least 25 receptions, 400 yards and six touchdowns in his first three games of a season, joining Hall of Famer MARVIN HARRISON (1999).
  • Become the second player with at least 120 receiving yards and a touchdown in each of his team’s first three games of a season, joining Hall of Famer JERRY RICE (1989).

SPECIAL SUNDAY NIGHT RECORD

While this recap focuses mainly on this Sunday afternoon games, there was a special record set during the “Sunday Night Football” game between the Los Angeles Rams and the Denver Broncos.

• Quarterback Matthew Stafford became the first player to throw for 20,000 yards for two NFL franchises. He amassed 45,109 yards for the Detroit Lions (2009-2020) and has thrown for 20,279 yards (and counting) for the Los Angeles Rams (2021-present).
