The Pro Football Hall of Fame’s archives is home to the vast majority of the museum’s collection with approximately 90 percent of the mementos housed in this area.

“The archives is actually the ideal place for these items from a preservation aspect,” commented Jason Aikens, the Hall’s collections curator. “In reality, the best thing for our mementos is for them not to see the light of day. But, nobody learns anything from them unless we share them with the public.”

DESCRIPTION: Game worn helmet by Hall of Fame defensive tackle Joe Greene.

Joe Greene was one of the most feared defensive lineman of his era.  An anchor of  Pittsburgh’s vaunted “Steel Curtain” defense, Greene helped the Steelers capture four Super Bowl victories during a six-year span.

Greene was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1987, his first year of eligibility.  That year, his helmet and jersey were sent to the Hall of Fame.  The helmet was on exhibit for many years while his jersey remains a part of the Steelers display in the Enshrinee Mementos Room.
