The Pro Football Hall of Fame is a unique venue to help teachers convey their curriculum through the exciting world of pro football.
Most people can readily recognize the name Jackie Robinson. That''s because, in 1947, he became the first African American baseball player in the major leagues. Most people, however, may not realize that northeastern Ohio high school graduate Marion Motley helped permanently break pro football''s color barrier one year prior to Robinson''s debut in baseball.
As such, the Pro Football Hall of Fame each year offers programs in observance of Black History Month. Previous year’s speakers have included: Hall of Famers Carl Eller, Willie Lanier, Bobby Mitchell, and Warren Moon; Packers’ linebacker Dave Robinson; USA Today sportswriter Jarrett Bell; George Taliaferro, the first African American drafted by an NFL club; Mount Union College Professor Fendrich R. Clark; and author, Dr. Charles K. Ross.
These programs are supplemented with interdisciplinary and cross-curricular lessons that are aligned with national standards of education.
